We are thrilled and honoured to be asked by the Scottish Government to provide the new Alison Cameron scholarships to 23 girl pupils in our schools in North Malawi. Alison Cameron has been the Scotland patron of MMF since we were founded in 1993. She and her husband, Colin, lived and worked in Malawi from 1957 till 1964. Colin became the Honorary Consul of Malawi in Scotland In the 1990s and held that role until a couple of years ago. Colin and Alison were guests of honour at the Malawian Independence celebrations on July 6 this year at the invitation of Professor Peter Mutharika, President of Malawi. They met our Malawi Manager, Mercy Sibande, to launch these scholarships. Our vice-convenor, Mariot Dallas, granddaughter of Mamie Martin, is quoted in the Scottish Government announcement of this funding and Mercy’s baby son, Biswayo, features in one of the photos! As well as 23 school places this funding allows us to work with The Soko Fund to provide two university four-year scholarships this year.
