‘When you educate the girl-child, you educate the whole Nation’ (Mercy Sibande, MMF Malawi Manager)
On this International Women’s Day we salute those women and men who work tirelessly to improve the opportunities of other women around the world. You, our faithful readers and supporters, play a huge part in this work in North Malawi.
We are pleased to be part of a group of charities, who for International women’s day, worked with Scotland’s International Development Alliance on a press release about our work with girls and women. The statement, published by The Alliance and Cable Magazine, noted how, as well as other organisations, our work ’empowers girls to gain a quality education, creating an environment where all women and girls in the community face reduced risk of discrimination, exploitation, abuse and neglect’.
In the face of the current negative publicity about some aid situations, it is so important that we let the world know about what we do every day and every year.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2018 is #PressforProgress. We have been doing that for 25 years and, with your help, will continue until there is no longer any need for our support of girls’ education. Don’t hold your breath. Progress in women’s equality is slow around the world and there is a particularly long way to go in the communities of our Malawian girls. They are, and will continue to be, a strong force for change locally and nationally.
