The Miles for Malawi team of cyclists for the Wee Jaunt Falkirk included cyclists of all ages and abilities and several family groups. Two team members did the course on child seats on the back of a parent’s bike, five were of primary school age and an undisclosed number are in possession of a bus pass. Mamie Martin’s own family was represented by two grandchildren, two grandchildren-in-law, one great-grand-daughter, one great -grandson-in-law, and a great-great-grandson. Some team members were old friends, some made new friends as they completed the course.
Helix Park in Falkirk was a great sight in the spring sunshine and the Miles for Malawi team was photographed and filmed several times, including down at the Kelpies. The 12K route included Helix Park, Falkirk Stadium and the Forth and Clyde Canal path. To achieve the full distance, riders had to go round twice and one ( young, fit and fast) cyclist went round three times!
There was a great atmosphere at the Wee Jaunt, with the sunshine, the cheering supporters and the piper playing at the start and finish line. Several team members posted updates online as the morning went on and were encouraged to see the donations coming in. By 10.00 am, the team members were wearing their medals and some were even talking about signing up for the Wee Jaunt Edinburgh in September!
It’s not too late to donate:
