Malawi is a small country in East Central Africa, slightly bigger than Scotland. Lake Malawi, one of the largest lakes in Africa, takes up 20% of its total area. It has a population of about ten million, the parents' generation decimated by AIDS, which leaves many children orphaned.

Landlocked and short of mineral resources, it is one of the poorest countries in the world. Its connection with Scotland dates from the arrival of the first Scottish missionaries in 1875. From these beginnings, the church of Central Africa Presbyterian [CCAP] has grown and developed, building on the doctrine and practices of the original missionaries while incorporating many important aspects of Malawian culture.
