Following the announcement of new Alison Cameron Scholarships by the Scottish Government we have been able to establish a new relationship in Malawi. From next year we will manage four bursaries at St Mary’s Girls’ Secondary School in Karonga. This new school is run by the RC Diocese of Karonga and was visited by Mercy Sibande and Moira Dunworth while on a Term 1 visit to Karonga Girls Secondary School, which we have supported for 10 years.
We are hugely impressed with the professionalism of the Diocesan Education Department and the school itself. Following an interview for a local radio station, Moira, still bravely driving around Malawi, took the wrong road and had some heart-stopping moments but got safely to St Mary’s. It seems that one should take the road with the small sign for the school, not the big-signed one. Next time will be easier and we look forward to working with the pupils and staff at St Mary’s.
